Ugly Christmas Sweaters for Photo Holiday Cards

by Leila S. on December 16, 2011

I was recently watching a segment on the Today Show and apparently there is a cult following for finding and wearing Ugly Christmas Sweaters.  There are even parties dedicated to the trend – BYOS – Bring Your Own Sweater.  The correspondent went around Manhattan looking for some sweaters for the other anchors and the crew.  There were a number of boutique shops with dedicated space for these items.  I thought this would make excellent office photo holiday cards.  We’ve all been given pieces of clothing as gifts that we’re not exactly fond of and we don’t usually get a reprieve with Christmas gifts. You could make it a contest to see who has or can find the worst/best Christmas sweater for the picture used in the photo cards.  Sometimes I think people lose their jovial holiday spirit and they don’t enjoy themselves enough.  This would bring a little a fun and humor into what can be just another task that has to get done.  I appreciate when people show their creative side.  It shows they don’t take themselves too seriously and can appreciate a good joke.

Ugly Christmas Sweaters
I was surprised to see the variety of sweaters they were able to locate.  There were sweaters with reindeer, Santa Claus, presents, ones that looked exactly like a Santa suit and another with dreidels and a Hanukkah Menorah.  They even found sweaters that had little twinkle lights sewn in and played music.  Granted, you wouldn’t see the lights and couldn’t hear the music in the photo cards but you can certainly imagine what this would look like.  It also makes you wonder how exactly do you wash a sweater with battery operated lights and music?  I feel inspired to find my own ugly sweater and throw and ugly Christmas sweater party myself.  Perhaps that will make it on to my photo Christmas cards next year!

People, listen up, your just setting yourself up for future generations to poke fun at you! (remember those clothes from the 70′s?), I do, and i have the pictures to prove it. Don’t allow future generations of family to think we actually dressed like this… Please!

Hey, ugly sweaters parties are cool! (I think the trend started sometime while I was in college. It’s sort of a hipster thing because you’re wearing ugly sweaters “”"ironically”"” or whatever.) I just think it’s fun to see who can find the worst Cosby-lookin sweater to wear. And pictures of such get-togethers would absolutely make fun x-mas cards!

Just make sure that the person wearing what you consider to be an ugly sweater is in on the game. Wouldn’t it suck to tell someone they won the ugly sweater contest and they had no idea they were in the running. Makes for quite an embarrassing moment. Kind of like being asked when the baby is due 3 months after you delivered.
